Why My Usb Device Became Not Recognized? How To Repair And Recover The Data?

Abstract:Physical damages cause the USB device to not be recognized making it impossible to access the contents of the flash-memory chip since the USB device not recognized by the PC operating system through its native USB interface. This type of USB device not recognized damage happens in more than 80% of all known cases

In general there are two reasons why the data on memory flash devices (cards, USB-sticks, SSD) is inaccessible.
Logical damages cause the drive to be physically recognized by the PC operating system but the damage prevents access to the data/pictures. In this case some specialized types of recovery software can help. Sometimes free recovery tools can also solve this problem.
Physical damages cause the USB device to not be recognized making it impossible to access the contents of the flash-memory chip since the USB device not recognized by the PC operating system through its native USB interface. This type of USB device not recognized damage happens in more than 80% of all known cases. These not recognized USB devices are most frequently caused by electrical problems leading to physical damage e.g. ESD (electrostatic discharge), current interruption. USB flash devices consist of a memory chip and a controller. The controller writes and reads the data from the memory chip and the USB device will be not recognized if the controller goes damaged. In most cases, the recovery is of a not recognized USB flash device with a damaged controller and mostly undamaged memory chips.

Formatting is required? The controller of the Memory Card is not in the position to inform the PC operating system about the characteristics of the USB device. Therefore the PC assumes, the USB device is not formatted and requests formatting. One could now think, the USB device problems are solved by formatting, unfortunately that does not work due to the damaged controller. Try it out, the PC will prompt a formatting failure. Finally this is then also a clear proof that any kind of software, also special formatting or rescue software can’t access to the USB device.

SD Flash Doctor recovery process: If the USB flash storage device is not recognized in the PC or it is impossible to access the data on it, there is only one way to get the data, unsolder the flash memory chip from the USB device not recognized and directly access their raw data with a programmable chip reader.

SD Flash Doctor is a hardware-software complex designed for the data rescue of not recognized flash memory cards (Secure Digital SD [mini SD, micro SD, SDHC, SDHC Plus], Compact Flash CF, Multimedia Card MMC, Memory Stick [MS, MS Pro, MS Pro DUO], Picture Card xD)/USB flash drives (USB-Sticks, pen drives).

What separates SD Flash Doctor from those common software products of the competition?

  • SD Flash Doctor is specialized in the data rescue of memory cards/USB-Sticks with physical damages. The recovery procedure of Flash Doctor is: first remove the flash memory NAND chips from the PCB; second read the NAND chip with the external NAND chip reader; third assemble the data by emulating the controller action. So SD Flash Doctor is able to recover data from a not recognized flash drive when the common software can’t.
  • SD Flash Doctor assembles the data of a not recognized USB device without any need to work on the controller, that is to say it supports NAND chips controlled by all types of controllers.
  • All updates and technical support are included and will be provided to the users free of charge; this product recovers not recognized USB device by analyzing dumps saved from the flash chips, thus there is no need to use the controller database which is for recovering data by matching controller types. We provide dump analysis procedures and utilities so that the program can assemble the data to be readable just like what the controller does. This is the most significant difference and advantage of SD Flash Doctor in working with not recognized USB device compared with other tools.

When can files/pictures be recovered?

  • inadvertent deletion
  • card wants to be formatted (memory card controller damaged!)
  • inadvertent formatting (only if the camera does not overwrite the addresses of the sectors, not recoverable are: Canon Ixus/Powershot, Casio Exilim, Olympus Camedia/u830)
  • USB device is not any longer recognized (memory card controller damaged!)
  • error messages like: read error, memory card error… (memory card controller damaged!)
  • damages by external influences (liquids, heat, dirt)
  • physical damages, without memory chip destruction

The big rectangle is the memory chip, if there is not a crack on it, data recovery is still possible even the USB device is not recognized.

When can’t files/pictures be recovered?

The cracks have damaged the memory chips and nobody is able to repair the chips or recover the data even the USB device can still be recognized.
